The Karina Bay Resort project was a six-minute full-motion sales video animation produced for a resort in the Florida Keys. Although this project is getting a bit old compared to what we can do today, it is a favorite because it was a first for our use of Revit in a project and a rather lengthy video for the time.
This project was used as a series of examples and tutorials in my book, “Mastering mental ray” (Sybex 2010).
Above is a shortened version of the video, without voice-over. It was rendered to DVD resolution of 720×480, so it’s a little fuzzy by today’s standards.
This project made great use of “RPC” plants, trees, vehicles, and people which are 2D billboard objects that are animated as you move around them, giving them the appearance of being 3D. They have their own issues with appearing correct in the scene, and today you would use 3d objects throughout as the computers have the capacity to hold all that data at once and manage it at render time.
