Intech Park was a full-motion sales video and set of high-resolution images for print. It’s a little scary how old this is now, and amazing to think about the hardware we rendered this on at the time. The scene consumed so many resources that we had to split the models into a series of XRefs and manually manage different sections and the models they loaded on any set of frames. Machines that ran out of memory would use the hard drive as a resource and render times would jump from 15 minutes to over three hours.
We also produced still images for marketing and promotion.
The 3D model had thousands of plants, made by hand from photos we took of the specific plants the owner wanted. The still images used RPC people, but in the video, we used Character Studio to have joggers and other people exercising.
Although the exterior looks a bit dated now, it’s nice to look back on it as it was quite a challenge.
The above was rendered with the help of “Lightscape”, which can bake the lighting into your model in a very realistic way, and also render out animations in minutes instead of days.
